What a rooftop package unit is
A rooftop package unit, often called an RTU, puts the compressor, condenser, evaporator coil, blower and controls in one cabinet set on the roof. Ducts run down into the building. It is the most common way to cool restaurants, retail centers, offices, warehouses and multifamily common areas in Texas, because it keeps noisy equipment off the floor and frees up interior space.
Because everything lives in one box on the roof, one failed part can shut down cooling for an entire zone. That is why rooftop experience matters. We know these units inside and out, from economizers and curbs to compressors and controls.
Rooftop AC repair
When a rooftop unit stops cooling, we diagnose the real cause instead of throwing parts at it. Common rooftop calls include failed compressors and capacitors, dirty or damaged condenser coils, refrigerant leaks, blower and belt problems, economizer faults and thermostat or control issues. We service all brands, and same day emergency service is available when your space cannot wait.
Rooftop unit replacement
Every rooftop replacement starts with a FREE estimate. Cost depends on the tonnage you need, whether the new unit fits your existing curb or needs a curb adapter, crane access, electrical work and controls. We explain each line clearly, the same honest approach clients mention when they compare our quotes with others.
We handle the full job: sizing the replacement, coordinating the lift, setting the unit, connecting power and ductwork, starting it up and checking it before we leave.
Repair or replace?
Packaged rooftop units commonly last about 15 to 20 years with regular maintenance, and heavy Texas cooling loads shorten that without it. A quick rule of thumb many owners use is the $5,000 rule: multiply the unit's age by the repair quote, and if the result is above $5,000, replacement usually makes more sense. Coil, compressor and economizer condition also weigh in. We give you an honest recommendation either way. No upsell games.
Refrigerant changes to plan for
Federal rules under the EPA AIM Act are moving new equipment away from R 410A toward lower GWP refrigerants such as R 454B and R 32. If you are planning a replacement, ask us how the transition affects equipment choice and future service for your building.
Custom design for new construction and retrofits
For new spaces, tenant finish outs and retrofits, we design rooftop systems around the building's actual load, layout and use, then install them professionally. Getting the design right up front avoids short cycling, hot spots and early equipment failure.
